Director, Marine IT
Wärtsilä IM is becoming Wärtsilä IT, a holistic function bringing all IT operations, development and people together across Wärtsilä, including IT activities inside our businesses and global functions.
Wärtsilä IT scope does not cover Digital R&D activities but otherwise covers all IT systems and activities located in our various businesses. Wärtsilä IT organization will cover people and teams inside our businesses as a matrix organization responsible for IT.
To set-up holistic Wärtsilä IT management, we are looking for a Director, Marine IT.
As Director, Marine IT, you will be responsible for all IT activities across our Marine businesses. You translate Marine business strategy into an IT technology roadmap, aligned with Wärtsilä's central IT architecture. You optimize the performance of our Marine businesses via well functioning IT services and drive maximum value to the future performance of these businesses via IT capabilities.
You ensure implementation of global IT standards and way of working in Marine while driving the Marine IT strategy forward. You are accountable for the performance and value add of IT activities toward Marine business management. You manage Marine IT budget and lead the nominated BU level IT Leads people in matrix.
Responsibilities
- Manage strategic business relations to increase value of IT activities toward Marine business and central IT
- Provide strategic guidance and be a trusted advisor to all areas of the business regarding IT
- Drive one Marine wide IT development roadmap and portfolio that is aligned with the strategy
- Drive holistic Marine IT architecture vision across Marine businesses
- Capture new demands and explore new opportunities together with stakeholders in business management
- Drive development of new business models and capabilities based on IT
- Support and steer development of selected IT business initiatives according to agreed priorities
- One point of contact for Marine business in all IT and data related topics
- Manage Marine IT portfolio of ~100 Meur per annum for maximum value add and cost efficiency
- Lead Marine business IT governance forums and management team, represent Marine towards Wärtsilä IT and funnel both demand and steering to both directions; ensure alignment with common targets and roadmaps
- Responsible for business alignment and deployment of Nova program future releases roadmap
- Lead Marine business central IT organization of around 15 FTE providing support for all businesses, including central Marine RPA team.
- Build and develop strong business development mindset in your organization while ensuring appropriate IT competencies are in place for Marine businesses
- Act as a data advocate and work to remove business, technical and political roadblocks
- Deliver clear and consistent communications within projects and across stakeholders of all levels
- Responsibility over competence, talent, and performance management of the direct Marine IT team.
Qualifications & Experience
- M.Sc. in Information Technology or Economics & Business Administration.
- Excellent management and leadership skills with capability to drive change.
- Minimum five years’ experience and proven track record in managing strategic business relations, service development and/or IT Services for organisation working in global environment.
- Ability to facilitate and drive strategy discussion, formulation and implementation process
- Strong financial knowledge with capability to manage IT spend and improve efficiency, make business case modelling and understanding of main profitability and business value drivers.
- Experience in steering, managing and developing project and service portfolios.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing and collaboration skills.
- Proactive and goal-focused attitude to work with excellent decision-making skills.
- A strong background using data to realise value
- Experience managing projects using Agile methodologies
- A collaborative, persuasive, collegiate approach to problem-solving
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Additional information
The position is located at Wärtsilä’s locations either in Salmisaari, Helsinki, or in Vaasa. Wärtsilä operates in a hybrid work model. The role reports directly to Wärtsilä’s Chief Information Officer, Tuomas Salosaari, as a member of his leadership team.
