Finland is a base for global pharmaceutical production, research & development and worldwide clinical trials. In Finland, Bayer employs roughly 1000 people, located in Espoo and Turku. The Turku production facility is part of Bayer's global pharmaceutical manufacturing organization, where we focus on the production and distribution of polymer-based drug delivery systems.
HSE & Facility Operation Lead
HSE & Facility Operation Lead holds overall responsibility for health, safety, environmental performance and facility operations at a production site. The role combines operational leadership with continuous development, ensuring that the site operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
The position carries strong people leadership accountability. It involves leading a team of experts, strengthening collaboration across functions and building capabilities that support both daily operations and long-term performance.
A central focus of the role lies in developing and embedding a strong safety culture. The objective is to integrate HSE into everyday work, ensuring that safety ownership extends throughout the organization and becomes part of decision-making at all levels.
The role also plays an active part in investment and construction projects. It ensures that safety and environmental considerations are incorporated from early planning stages through to execution.
In addition, the position connects local operations with global networks. Close collaboration with international stakeholders enables the sharing and implementation of best practices across sites.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with Finnish regulations and internal HSE standards
Lead and develop the site’s HSE and facility management functions
Drive safety culture and embed HSE into daily operations
Manage and develop a team of 15–20 professionals
Oversee facility operations, maintenance, and regulatory inspections
Lead ISO 14001, 45001 and 50001 certification processes
Support investment and construction projects from an HSE perspective
Collaborate with global HSE network and external stakeholders
Develop processes, procedures, and operational efficiency
Coordinate site safety, security, and emergency response activities

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a leader who combines strong technical understanding with the ability to drive people and performance. The role requires a hands-on mindset and the capability to take ownership in a complex, regulated environment.
You bring solid experience from industrial or construction-related settings, ideally within HSE or facility management. You understand how regulations, standards and operational realities connect in practice. We hope you will havea minimum of 5–8 years of managerial experience with proven track record in industrial and/or construction environment preferably in HSE and facility management related role.
You lead through clarity, structure and collaboration. You know how to build trust, develop teams and create alignment across functions. At the same time, you are able to challenge existing ways of working and drive continuous improvement.
You approach challenges analytically and proactively. You identify risks early, translate them into actionable plans and ensure execution. Problem-solving and decision-making come naturally to you.
You communicate fluently in both Finnish and English and feel comfortable working in an international environment. You engage effectively with both local teams and global stakeholders.
